Corsets are rarely seen on Dinka women, and this one is particularly unusual because of the height of the projection at the back; its size indicates that this girl belongs to a family with considerable wealth in cattle. The corsets, supported by two rigid wires at the spine, are sewn tightly in place at the front and there they remain until they are cut open - which for a woman, is on the occasion of her marriage.
